02:18 PM EST, 01/28/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index fell to 104.1 in January from a 109.5 reading in December due to declines in both the present situation and expectations readings.

The Conference Board noted more pessimism about current business and labor market conditions and less optimism about future conditions.

The FHFA home price index posted a 0.3% gain in November after a larger 0.5% increase in October, as expected. The index was 4.2% higher than a year ago.

The Dallas Federal Reserve's services index reading fell to 7.4 in January from 10.8 in December, while the Richmond Fed's services reading declined to 4 from 23.

Redbook reported that US same-store retail sales were up 4.9% year over year in the week ended Jan. 25, faster than a 4.5% gain in the prior week due to continued clearance of winter items, particularly apparel. Sales should be boosted by Super Bowl supplies in the coming weeks, as well as early purchases to avoid possible tariffs.

The Q4 GDPnow estimate from the Atlanta Fed is for a 3.2% gain, revised up from a 3% gain reported on Jan. 17. The next update is scheduled for Wednesday.
