Even as the government is yet to formally define Green Hydrogen, he said that if electricity produced from solar or wind energy is used in electrolysers to split water, then the produced Hydrogen should be termed as "Green". Expressing satisfaction with the recently released draft rules for Hydrogen-powered IC engines, he beamed that the draft rules will be discussed with the industry and will possibly become more people-friendly.

Speaking on energy transition in the short to medium term, he told CNBC-TV18 that while emissions will be the first regulation for Hydrogen IC engines, safety features like brakes and tyres will be the first regulation for vehicles.

He said that norms for brakes and tyres will already be in place by the time Euro 7 kicks in, adding that discussions are underway for Hydrogen regulation on which pollutant needs to get norms made for itself, like Nox.

While he stated that there won't be any carbon-related pollutants in the mix as there is no carbon involved, he informed that the government and the industry are finalising the draft which will be taken to its logical conclusion after thorough discussions.

Favouring government funding for renewable energy projects like in the US and the UK, he said that in India the government funds in terms of infrastructure while the automobile industry funds for vehicles and is able to keep relative costs as frugal.
