April 10 (Reuters) - Citigroup ( C/PN ) on Thursday named
Raymond Gatcliffe, a three-decade company veteran, as the chief
executive officer of its Canada operations.
Gatcliffe, whose appointment is effective April 1, succeeds
CEO John Hastings, who will stay on as a member of the board.
Hastings was at the helm since 2010, according to his LinkedIn
profile.
The leadership change comes amid a shake up of the
decades-old global trade order triggered by sweeping tariffs
from U.S. President Donald Trump. Canadian Prime Minister Mark
Carney on Thursday reiterated that Ottawa would respond with
force until Washington lifted the tariffs.
"Canadian companies are internationally focused and we look
forward to continuing to support them with Citi's leading global
products and network," said Gatcliffe.
Gatcliffe most recently served as the North American Head of
Citi's Commercial Bank, in New York. He has also led the
lender's Commercial Bank in Europe, the Middle East and Africa
during his career that began at Citi Trinidad in 1994.
Gatcliffe will also assume the role of Country Officer,
Citibank Canada said.
