07:37 AM EDT, 04/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) backed OpenAI has scaled back the duration and depth of safety testing for its latest artificial intelligence systems, The Financial Times reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The upcoming "o3" model is reportedly being reviewed over just a few days, a major shift from the months-long process used for earlier releases like GPT-4.
Sources told FT the shortened evaluations reflect growing urgency to stay ahead of rivals, including Meta (META), Google ( GOOG ) , and xAI, with the company aiming to roll out o3 as soon as next week.
Evaluators said OpenAI's current process offers limited time and support to uncover high-risk behaviors, increasing the likelihood that harmful features could be overlooked, the news outlet reported.
OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
