01:36 PM EDT, 05/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) shareholders rejected a proposal seeking to form a board committee that will address risks posed by artificial intelligence systems to human rights, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.
The proposal was presented by AFL-CIO, which cited AI-based human resources decisions that could lead to discrimination, according to the report.
In its proxy statement Wednesday, Amazon's ( AMZN ) board recommended that shareholders vote against the proposal since it was already overseeing human rights and other risks associated with AI and machine learning.
Amazon ( AMZN ) and AFL-CIO did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
