Helped by a one-time gain from the sale of its telecom towers, Idea Cellular on Monday reported consolidated profit at Rs 256.5 crore for the quarter ended June 2018, compared with a net loss of Rs 81.5 crore last year.
Revenue from operations fell about 28 percent to Rs 5,889.2 crore, with the mobile carrier hit by an aggressive pricing war set in motion by the entry of deep-pocketed rival Reliance Jio.
CNBC Polls had predicted a loss of Rs 1,545 crore for the quarter under review.
Average revenue per user dropped sharply to Rs 100 for the June quarter compared to Rs 105 in the previous quarter.
Idea Cellular reported a consolidated operating EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) of Rs 659.4 crore in Q1FY19, the company said in its filing.
