AMSTERDAM, July 5 (Reuters) - The European Commission
has begun gathering information from industry on its use of
"legacy", or slightly older generations of computer chips, in
supply chains, a spokesperson said on Friday.
In emailed remarks, a spokesperson said the European Union
and United States might develop "cooperative measures to address
dependencies or distortionary effects."
The remarks follow a Reuters report on Friday that the
Commission had begun a survey of the European semiconductor
industry in light of a rapid build-out of legacy chipmaking
capacity in China by companies with state support.
