Ahead of union budget 2019, Arun Singh, the chief economist at Dun and Bradstreet, said Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) required a holistic approach.
"My expectation from the budget is it should be full-fledged, not just from the farm support, but in terms of income. The budget must design an appropriate marketing plan for the agriculture sector and improving the productivity of some of the distressed sector," Singh said.
"From interim budget till date, we have seen most of the macroeconomic parameters unfortunately not supporting the Indian growth story, especially agriculture. In February, the expectation of the monsoon was not very clear. However, now it is clear that it is delayed and is below normal. There could be a spatial distribution issue also. Some of the states might have scanty rainfall and some might have surplus rainfall, which means there will be a maximum impact on the productivity going forward. That is one big concern we have," he added.
