Chipmakers Extend Thursday's Gain as Shares Rise Pre-Bell

06:55 AM EDT, 08/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Major chipmakers saw gains in premarket trading Friday after closing higher on Thursday, reversing declines seen earlier in the week.

Shares of Nvidia ( NVDA ) added more than 1% ahead of market open, as did Micron Technology ( MU ) . Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing ( TSM ) rose more than 2% pre-bell. Nvidia ( NVDA ), Micron and Taiwan Semiconductor were all up around 6.1% on Thursday's close.

Meanwhile, Qualcomm ( QCOM ) , Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD ) and Broadcom ( AVGO ) were gaining slightly before markets open Friday. Qualcomm ( QCOM ) was up 5.7% on Thursday's close. Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD ) rose 6%, while Broadcom ( AVGO ) added 7%.

Chip stocks have been notably volatile in recent weeks, reflecting broader fluctuations in Big Tech.
